1. Aurillac's historic center A plunge into the medieval past

The must-haves

A historic monument
Aurillac’s Hôtel de Ville, also located on Place de l’Hôtel de Ville, is an elegant 19th-century building. Its imposing façade and interior decorations make it a must-see for architecture enthusiasts.
Inaugurated in 1806, the Hôtel de Ville housed stores (first floor) and a museum (second floor). A dome topped by a campanile was added at the end of the 19th century. A series of eleven busts adorned the façade: only that of Napoleon remains.

A return to the past
The Aurillac Consular House. This Renaissance building has been restored and transformed into an exhibition hall.
The seat of the consuls (municipal magistrates) since the 14th century, the consular house was rebuilt around 1580 in a ceremonial style (Gothic decorations, mullioned windows…), which was subsequently modified several times. MH listed in 1926.

L’Ancien Couvent Notre-Dame
A theater built in 1809 in the chapel of the former Notre-Dame convent.
Transformed into an Italian-style theater in 1883, the building received a domed rotunda, inaugurated in 1904. The roof was seriously damaged by fire in 1999.
