Stay History(s) and know-how

Plunge into the heart of authenticity with “Histoire(s) et Savoir-Faire”, a packaged holiday designed for groups in search of discovery and conviviality.

A richly emotional experience in the emblematic Pays d’Aurillac, with its heritage, excellent craftsmanship and gourmet traditions.

 Old Aurillac

You’ll visit Old Aurillac, where you’ll meet Gerbert, a local boy who became the 1st French Pope, and Geraud, the founding saint of the town of Aurillac, from the banks of the Jordanne, a romantic southern-style ensemble, to the abbey church, the consular house, half-timbered houses, plush hotels and many other surprises that make Aurillac a multi-faceted town.

The visit will be enhanced by a tasting of Auvergne cheeses, with the possibility of shopping in the boutique.

 Manufacture Piganiol

Visit the Maison Piganiol: from 1884 to the present day, 5 generations from father to son have run this company, which perpetuates the age-old know-how of Aurillac, Europe’s umbrella capital.

Here, you can discover the secrets of umbrella manufacture and the know-how of the various trades involved: carcass maker, stitcher, pattern maker…

The history of the umbrella through the centuries and in Aurillac will also be presented.

Admission is free with the purchase of an umbrella in the store.

 Distillerie Couderc

The story of Distillerie Couderc began in 1908.

Today, it is the last independent liquor maker in Auvergne, and has adapted its production tools while retaining the specific characteristics of this ancestral craft.

Considered the gold of Auvergne, yellow gentian is one of the top three medicinal and aromatic plants used in France.

After a long, slow maceration, discover Couderc’s handcrafted gentians, as well as regional aperitifs.
